ACURIL AWARDS NOMINATIONS CATEGORIES
1. Institutions – Categories for institutions recognizes the excellence in the services of information units, members of ACURIL. It is ACURIL’s interest to stimulate and stand out the continued interaction and sharing of experiences of archives, libraries, documentation centers and other information units. ACURIL stimulates all its members to actively participate in this program.
2. Information Professionals – It is ACURIL’s interest to stimulate and stand out the highest performance of information professionals in the Caribbean, members of the organization. The prestige of the ACURIL Awards Program rests upon its members. ACURIL urges you to take some time to reflect on the accomplishments of your colleagues and actively participate in this program.
3. Caribbean Information Professional of the Year – ACURIL announces the Information Professional in the Caribbean Award in order to recognize and honor the individual commitment, excellence in performance, and outstanding professional achievement of an information specialist (librarian, archivists, documentalists, etc.) in the Caribbean, members of ACURIL (in any of the linguistic areas: English, French or Dutch and Spanish). It is ACURIL’s interest to stimulate and stand out the highest performance of information professionals in the Caribbean, members of the organization.
The Stephney Ferguson Library Programs for Special Information Needs Award. The ACURIL President’s Award. To recognize and distinguish a school, public or national library in the Caribbean, which has demonstrated excellence of service providing a program to satisfy special community information needs. This special ACURIL Award was established by Jamaican Past President Stephney Ferguson in 2000, in her interest to stimulate the development of information programs to special clienteles, and the offering of innovative outreach programmes to help build informed communities in the region. ACURIL rejoices in naming this distinction The Stephney Ferguson Library Programs for Special Information Needs Award. Nature of the Award: A plaque and citations.
Creativity in the Development of Reading Programs for Children and/or Young Adults. The University of Puerto Rico Press Award. To recognize and distinguish a school, public, or national library which has developed and outstanding reading program for children and/or young adults. Advocacy, innovation and creativity in the planning, development and use of information and literature resources, geared to strengthen their reading habits, to help develop a taste for reading literature, and to stimulate their development as lifelong learners, will be key elements in the consideration. Nature of the Award: A plaque and citation.
Leadership in the Use of New Information Technologies to Expand and Facilitate Access to Serials Content. EBSCO Information Services Award. To recognize and distinguish a school, academic, public or national library for its innovative, creative and effective achievement in planning and implementing a program or service with serial publications, using information technologies, for the benefit of its clientele. Nature of the Award: A plaque, a special prize and citation.
Innovative and Effective Information Services with the Application of Information Technologies. The Thomson/Gale Group Award. To recognize and distinguish a school, academic, public or national library for its innovative, creative and effective achievement in planning and implementing a program or service, for the benefit of its clientele, using information technologies. Nature of the Award: A plaque, a special prize and citation.
Leadership in the Development of Information and/or Research Skills Program. The Mandarin Automation Award. To recognize and distinguish a school, academic, public or national library for its innovative, creative and effective achievement in the planning and development of an information program or service, for the benefit of its clientele, using information technologies. Nature of the Award: A plaque with an annual subscription and citation.
The Albertina Pérez de Rosa Information Units Collaborative or Unique Projects in the Caribbean Award. ACURIL, Puerto Rico Chapter Award. To recognize and honor the excellent performance of collaborative efforts of information units as communities of practice, or unique efforts of local or regional information units evidenced through the implementation of successful information projects for the benefit of their clienteles in the Caribbean. Nature of the Award: A plaque and citation.
Applicants for the award must meet the following criteria:
1. Well defined program, in terms of goals and objectives and addresses the particular description of the Award.
2. Innovation and creativity elements are observed in strategies used within the program design and implementation to better serve the specific clientele in relation to the particular Award.
3. The impact on the particular clientele served is evidenced by the outcome observed.
4. The project evidences that it can serve as a model with potential to be adapted by other libraries and information units.
Participants must elaborate and submit a portfolio with the following parts.

Part C. Program Description. Please do not exceed 10 total pages, double spaced, typed preferably in word processor, using Microsoft word, at least 12 point type, with the following elements:
1. Briefly describe the Library or Information Unit
2. Goals and Objectives. Describe the goals and objectives for the library’s special program
3. Program Design and Implementation
4. Innovative and Creative Strategies Used in the Program
5. Achievements (Describe outcomes and impact; and elements that evidence Effectiveness and Success)
6. Evaluation of the Program. Describe elements of assessment. Include in appendix an evaluation instrument, if available.
7. Describe how the Program can be replicated by other library and information unit
Part D. Appendices (that might contribute to the presentation)

The ACURIL Award of Excellence in Research and Publications. ACURIL’s Research in the Information Field in the Caribbean Special Interest Group Award. To recognize and honor the research work conducted by information professionals in the field of libraries, archives, information/documentation centers, museums in the Caribbean. Nature of Award: To receive a plaque and citation.
Applicants for the particular selected award must meet the following criteria:
1. Only information specialists belonging to ACURIL member institutions or ACURIL personal members qualify.
2. If no application meets the selection criteria appropriately, the Awards Committee is not obligated to present an award.
3. Nominee must currently be working as an information professional in any type of information unit or self employed doing information work.
